Burnet girls soccer beats Gonzales for another postseason win
The Burnet High School girls soccer team defeated Gonzales 4-0 in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs March 28.
That sets up a third-round match against Boerne High at 5:30 p.m. at Fischer Canyon Lake High School. Tickets sold online only. Note that Comal Independent School District has a clear bag policy.
Head coach Kimberly Myhre noted her athletes were playing with a heavy hearst after the passing of Michael Myhre, the “favorite Myhre,” she said.
“It has been a crazy week with life, and these girls had a big reason to win,” she said. “They came out hard and played hard for 80 minutes. The community showed up for this team, and my heart couldn’t be more proud to be a Burnet Bulldog.”
The Lady Dawgs (25-2-1, 12-0 District 25-2A champion) led Gonzales 2-0 at the break. Myhre noted her athletes were impeccable on the pitch.
Haylie Bartlett, Brook Oliva and Kaycie Banton each had a goal and an assist, and Julie Suazo had a goal.
The coach equally was pleased with the defense in posting a shutout.
“Defense kept it together in the back as well as our goal keeper. Juliet Morales,” she said. “Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing up last night and watching this group compete. and get another gold ball.”
